Wandiligong School is staffed by a number of generalist and specialist teachers.   

 

As you read through the pages on this site I hope that you learn why we are all so proud to be a part of the vibrant Wandiligong School Community. Our school provides a veritable smorgasbord of learning experiences to enthuse and motivate our students to learn and grow academically, socially and emotionally.

 

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will be required to make. By visiting the primary schools in your local area, viewing classes in progress and speaking with staff and students you will be able to accurately consider your options and make an informed choice for your child.

 

I have chosen to spend the majority of my professional life working in a small school because of my unwavering belief that small schools have the capacity to positively impact on every student’s academic, personal and social development in so many ways.

 

I have found that teachers who choose to work in small schools are typically enthusiastic and committed teachers who love the spontaneity of classroom interaction with young kids. Small schools typically have a comfortable ambience of fun, acceptance and zest for learning. Happy positive teachers are able to role model behaviours which assist children to become students who are happy with a positive attitude to learning. Big kids look out for little kids and kids who are different blend into a community that accepts and promotes the notion that being an individual, and not a peer group clone is a valuable personality trait.

 

Being part of a small school community like ours can be likened to being part of a very small group of friends. It is comforting to know that your feelings and thoughts are accepted and valued within your social group. It is easier to take the opportunity to explore your thoughts and understandings of points of interests under discussion from within your comfort zone. In a small group your confidence can grow and your conviction that your ideas have merit intensifies. This growth in self-esteem and self-worth eventually becomes the motivation to take on stronger leadership roles within the family and community. In a larger forum the opportunity to be heard is often lessened and the confidence to participate or challenge dominant points of view diminishes or totally evaporates. Small groups provide a safe environment to take the risk to test your potential and gain support and credibility amongst your peers.

 

Small schools like Wandiligong cater for children as individuals. Gifted children are able to excel in an environment where they are encouraged to think differently and take tasks to a higher level. The underachievers have the opportunity to receive one to one attention and are supported in their struggle to achieve.

 

Small schools traditionally have smaller classes and smaller social groups and we are no different. It is rare therefore to see friendship cliques developing that have the potential isolate others. In a small school the lack of choice forces children to broaden their level of acceptance of others and girls and boys develop tolerance of their differences and real friendships develop. Little kids are included in games and are encouraged and taught skills to enhance the overall enjoyment level of everyone involved in them. As adults we rarely work and socially interact with a people of our own age. Small schools reflect this reality encouraging and teaching children to understand and interact with varying levels of maturity and ability.
